Gavin joined Simpson Millar as a partner and head of the Industrial Disease department in September 2015, having spent 10 years at Hugh James solicitors and 5 years at NewLaw solicitors where he was also head of the Industrial Disease department. He has always specialised in industrial disease claims, with a particular emphasis on asbestos related cases and occupational cancer claims. Gavin only represents Claimants.
Gavin has vast experience in litigating asbestos cases, including mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis and pleural thickening claims, regularly recovering six-figure sums for clients. He prides himself on his empathetic approach to clients, making the claims process as painless for them as possible. Gavin is adept at negotiating excellent settlements but equally happy to take cases as swiftly as possible to trial where Defendants are not prepared to settle. He has in addition coordinated and litigated several group actions so is familiar with multi party actions.
Gavin is recommended in the Legal 500 United Kingdom 2016 edition for his work in the Personal Injury sector.
He was also recommended in the Legal 500 United Kingdom 2017 edition for his work in industrial disease. The "clear-sighted and very knowledgeable [Gavin] specialises in chest disease claims, including silicosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as in occupational cancer matters, including skin cancer."
He has provided legal training to colleagues in relation to asbestos cases and industrial disease claims generally.
Gavin is a Senior Litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and is accredited by APIL as an Occupational and Asbestos Disease Specialist Lawyer. Gavin is also a member of the Law Society.
Outside the law, Gavin enjoys spending time with his family, rugby, cycling, literature and travelling.
