Court of Protection and Education Law
Having obtained a LLB Hons degree in law at the University of the West of England, Bristol, Fern joined the Education and Community Care department at Simpson Millar in August 2016. She is currently a Paralegal providing support to all fee earners of the Education and Community Care team in Wimbledon, but she predominantly assists Oliver Studdert and Laura Wrixon with their Court of Protection matters. Fern also has experience running cases in relation to Admission Appeals.
The Court of Protection team are regularly instructed by Independent Mental Capacity Advocates (IMCA), Relevant Persons Representatives, paid and unpaid (RPPR/RPR), and the Official Solicitor, on behalf of individuals who lack capacity. The team is also instructed by family members, carers or friends of those who lack capacity. The majority of Fern’s work with the team involves assisting where a vulnerable adult wishes to challenge a standard authorisation which deprives them of their liberty, or where there are disagreements as to the individual’s capacity or best interests.
In her spare time, Fern enjoys reading classic literature, travelling, and is an avid list maker!
