Erika has recently joined Simpson Millar as Head of the Private Client Department. She qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and for the first ten years of her career practised in London, predominantly as in-house legal counsel to a number of FTSE 100 companies. Following her move to Yorkshire, she retrained into the Private Client field and subsequently qualified as a Trust & Estate Practitioner in 2011. Erika prides herself on building strong relationships with her clients and their families, as well as being able to explain complex legal concepts in plain English.

She regularly advises on inheritance tax efficient Wills and the appropriate use and administration of trusts both in the context of Wills and during lifetime.
Erika has a wealth of experience in administering deceased's estates of all sizes and complexities. This typically involves making applications to the Probate Registry for Grants of Representation, preparing the inheritance tax submission including providing advice on any relevant tax reliefs, as well as dealing with any capital gains and income tax returns required to be made. She regularly advises on the appropriateness of any Deeds of Variation which may be relevant to the beneficiaries in a deceased's estate.
Erika provides advice on the preparation and registration of Lasting Powers of Attorney both in the context of Health & Welfare and Finance & Property. She also regularly deals with the registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney.
Erika was recommended by the Legal 500 2017 United Kingdom Edition. They explain: "The ‘highly knowledgeable’ team at Simpson Millar LLP ‘has the client’s best interests in mind at all times’, which ‘instils great confidence’. Erika Sinclair joined the firm from Andrew Jackson Solicitors LLP and leads the practice. Sinclair receives high praise from clients, who label her ‘an outstandingly able individual, who is knowledgeable, determined, thorough and indefatigable’ and who ‘gets to the root of every issue thanks to a detailed and technical approach’".
Erika qualified as a full member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP) in 2011.
Erika spends much of her free time ferrying her teenage children around Yorkshire to various sporting activities and events, often with her daughter’s horse in tow! When she is relieved of her taxi duties, she enjoys reading, gardening and catching up with friends and family.
