Education Law and Community Care
Emma Davies is a Chartered Legal Executive based in the Lancaster office.
Prior to joining Simpson Millar LLP in March 2010, she served for a number of years as a musician in the Royal Air Force. However, towards the end of her service, she decided to follow up a long term interest in the law and study to become a Chartered Legal Executive. Emma completed her academic studies whilst working full-time in the RAF (mainly whilst travelling on coaches to concerts and parades) and has since worked solely in education and community care law, though she also has qualifications in family and criminal law.
Emma has extensive experience in all aspects of education law and has acted on behalf of clients in relation to special educational needs, school admissions, discrimination, higher education matters and exclusions. She regularly represents clients in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal and guides them through the appeal process. She strives to achieve the best possible outcomes for clients and negotiates with local authorities to attempt to resolve issues outside a hearing wherever possible.
Emma has a particular interest in school admissions appeals and has acted for many clients in this area. She has had numerous successes, including infant class size appeals, which are extremely difficult to win. Emma has also appeared on the BBC Breakfast programme to discuss school admissions. Please see our admissions page for case studies that she has acted for.
Emma has written articles for Inclusion Now magazine and the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) magazine. She is also a case study for the CILEx route into law.
Emma has a great interest in good food, particularly Italian cuisine and would like to be able to travel more often to sample food around the world. She loves to cook, entertain and visit restaurants and food shows. She retains her keen interest in a variety of different types of music and has a first class honours degree in Music from Birmingham Conservatoire together with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Orchestral Training from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
