Care Proceedings Legal Assistant
Sophie joined the Simpson Millar Care Proceedings Team at the end of October (2021) from a local government office where she looked after children case management. Her time in local government gave Sophie a solid understanding of legal procedures, especially around parental rights, and led to her role at Simpson Millar as a Legal Assistant in Care Proceedings.
She decided to join Simpson Millar because she felt they fully supported her career aspirations. Support, training and further professional development opportunities were offered to her, right from the very beginning.
Sophie’s main job is to support the solicitors in the Care Proceedings team to help them complete their casework effectively and efficiently. She does this by speaking to clients, liaising with medical experts and other professionals and picking up general admin tasks.
Once she’d graduated from Bristol University with a degree in Childhood Studies, which included learning aspects of child law, sociology and psychology, Sophie then worked with children from all different backgrounds in various family, educational and medical settings. This fuelled her passion for children’s rights and the ways they can often be upheld it’s this that makes Sophie an invaluable member of the Care Proceedings team.
In her current role at Simpson Millar, Sophie is enjoying developing her understanding of legal practices and being able to communicate with professionals and clients on a daily basis. Care proceedings can be an incredibly intense experience for clients, so Sophie’s finding that being able to guide them through the tough and emotional process is a very rewarding aspect of the role.
Interests outside of work
Having visited far-flung places such as Asia, Canada and America, Sophie is a seasoned traveller and loves to jet off and explore exotic places as much as she can.
When she’s not out of the country discovering the beautiful beaches of Asia or the vast expanse of America, Sophie’s happiest in the kitchen at home, cooking up a storm for her friends and family whilst watching Major League Baseball on TV.
