Employment Law Solicitor
Mike is a Solicitor specialising in Employment Law and Professional Regulation.
He has more than 20 years' experience of advising clients on employment law matters. He has acted for employees, in particular, Trade Union members, and Trade Unions and also for employers, drafting and reviewing employment contracts, handbooks and settlement agreements.
Mike has represented professionals before regulatory bodies, such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and representing clients at Employment Tribunals, Employment Appeal Tribunal, Civil Service Appeal Board, County Courts, Magistrates Courts and regulatory tribunals.
In one notable case, he acted on behalf of migrant workers in an Employment Tribunal and in the Court of Appeal, and he also represented employees in an industrial dispute that resulted in a change to legislation governing the dismissal of employees while taking lawful industrial action.
In addition, Mike has acted on behalf of Trade Union members who had been refused employment because they appeared on a blacklist due to their Trade Union activities. Furthermore, he successfully defended a blacklisted employee in the face of an Injunction brought against him by SSE, who was engaged in a protest outside an SSE power plant.
Mike has significant experience in acting for employees and Trade Unions in respect of Protective Awards and awards in respect of failures by employers to consult on transfers of business.
Mike is a member of the Law Society.
Interests outside of work
Mike is a local parish councillor, a casual runner and a season ticketholder for Everton FC. He is also a lover of Italy and opera.
