Overprescribed Medication

Sadly, doctors were unable to find the baby's heartbeat and therefore labour had to be induced.

Our client was prescribed a drug to induce labour, but she was negligently prescribed too much and began experiencing extreme pain and heavy bleeding. She was rushed into theatre and it was found that her uterus had ruptured. Both the uterus and the bladder needed to be surgically repaired, and she needed 6 units of blood.

She was first placed in a High Dependency Unit (HDU) but, unfortunately, her condition deteriorated which meant she needed to be transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She suffered pneumonia, septicaemia (blood poisoning), pulmonary oedema (excess fluid in lungs) and Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome.

Life Changing Consequences

Our client has been left with psychological harm from the suffering and distress she experienced. It was found that she suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder for as long as 2 years after the ordeal and continues to suffer from depression.

She has also been left with irreversible brain damage, neuropsychological problems, and episodes of pain and incontinence.

Helen comments:

"The combined effect of the medical problems has meant that my client lost her independence as a result of the brain damage, and has extensive care needs resulting in an increased dependence on others to help with the tasks of everyday living that we take for granted."

Why it's Important to Seek Help

Helen explains why it is vital to seek help:

"My client will remain profoundly disabled, but with £350,000 in compensation she is now in a position where she can secure the rehabilitation, equipment and aids to assist her in reaching a positive outcome."
