Walking For London Legal Support Trust 2018

The Law Of…Raising Funds For Free Legal Services

Members of our staff took part in the London Legal Support Trust's (LLST) 10km charity walk on 21st May 2018, alongside a record number of 13,000 walkers.

Fern Crabtree, Paralegal in Education Law and Community Care, explains why we're proud to have taken part, and why LLST is such a worthwhile cause.

This Is Why We Walk

Joining the 13,000 walkers, and representing Simpson Millar, Fern Crabtree, Aimee Brackfield, Laura Wrixon, Lois Clifton, Alison Hills, Vic Pogge von Strandmann, Ross Smith, Samantha Hale, Fiona Couzens, Angela Jackman, Sarah Collier, David Thomas, Zuzanna Szymczak, Amanda Davis, Aimee Last, Hannah Manson, Meral Schwerger, Katerina Stavropoulos, Jessica Beckerleg, Nolan Mortimer, Grace Serwanga, Katherine Green, Agnieszka Marks, and Geoff Simpson-Scott walked the 10KM to raise funds to help continue the great work of the LLST.

The London Legal Support Trust is an independent charity that raises funds for free legal services in London & the South East. They support the provision of specialist legal advice through law centres, advice agencies and citizen’s advice bureaux by providing them with grant funding, alongside other forms of support. In addition to funding, they offer their knowledge, contacts and experience of the sector to help agencies become more sustainable.

More than 12,000 people took part in the walk in 2017, which raised an incredible £810,000.

Fern comments:

The work that this charity does is so important, as it allows many to obtain access to justice that would not otherwise be able to do so. Anyone of us could at some point in our lives find that we are in need of assistance, and it’s great to see the positive impact it is having on so many.”

We are proud to have taken part in this walk and to have raised a current total of £741.13. This will help in assisting people to obtain access to education, better housing conditions and access to information where they have been unfairly dismissed or discriminated against at work.”

The need for the charities supported by the London Legal Support Trust have grown over the past few years while resources for their work have diminished, making the funds raised by the walk even more vital.”
