Simpson Millar’s Nick Harris advises Watchdog on Egypt's Red Sea Holiday Village Illness Outbreak

Dated:

Simpson’s Millar’s head of travel Nick Harris will be giving his opinion on the Red Sea Holiday Village on BBC1’s Watchdog programme this Wednesday evening.

Nick recently advised the Channel 4 programme SuperScrimpers on a holiday nightmare experienced by three friends who booked an October package holiday, only to find their hotel virtually closed for the season.

Holiday IllnessOn Watchdog, Nick Harris will again advise on the rights of holidaymakers on package holidays, after guests at the Red Sea Holiday Village fell ill with gastrointestinal infections.

Recent online posts at Holiday Watchdog.com refer to hygiene standards at the Sharm El Sheikh holiday complex as “appalling”.

Holidaymakers have highlighted poorly maintained guest bathrooms and equipment in the rooms, including dirty fridges.

There are also serious lapses in hygiene in the public areas, says guests –with poor hygiene among dining room staff, lukewarm food, swimming pools containing human excrement, vomit not cleared properly from public areas, sewage in water used on the gardens – and a communal lavatory brush kept in a linen cupboard without being disinfected.

The Red Sea Holiday Village has its own clinic on campus, which also suffers from lapses in hygiene, according to some guests. Staff allegedly fail to wash their hands between seeing patients and do not change the disposable covers on examination tables.

Some patients are also said to have received medication banned in the UK from the clinic – while others have required antibiotics and a course of rehydration therapy in hospital after contracting gastrointestinal infections at the hotel.

One holidaymaker posting on Holiday Watchdog.com alleged that hotel management at the Red Sea Holiday Village blamed the “dirty habits” of hotel guests for outbreaks of stomach illness at the complex, which is used by First Choice holidays.

Leading travel lawyer Nick Harris from Simpson Millar will be offering his opinion on the problems encountered by some holidaymakers at the Red Sea Holiday Village on the episode of Watchdog scheduled for Wednesday, 12 September at 8pm on BBC1.

Nick recently won compensation for more than 100 victims of a recent illness outbreak at the Red Sea Holiday Village in Egypt.
