Simpson Millar and Show Racism the Red Card Wales Enjoy Successful Fundraiser

We recently teamed up with leading anti-racism charity Show Racism the Red Card Wales to host the black tie fundraiser of the year to raise money that will help educate school children on racism and discrimination.

The evening was a resounding success and we're very pleased to announce that we were able to raise £5,500 on the night alone with a massive turnout of 230 people.

Funds to go Towards Tackling Racism and Discrimination

The event was our 3rd black-tie fundraiser with Show Racism the Red Card Wales. Every year the event has a different theme; this year's was to celebrate Black History Month and in particular the contribution of women.

Jenine Abdo, a family law solicitor at Simpson Millar and an ambassador for Show Racism the Red Card explains:

"It is a charity which is extremely close to my heart. I do a lot of work with disadvantaged people and ethnic minorities in the Cardiff area and tackling racism is absolutely vital to the health of any diverse community. Teaching youngsters in schools about the harm racism causes prevents the issue from escalating as they grow older."

"The workshops funded from the money raised at this event will focus on the dangers of stereotyping and discrimination. They provide young people the unique opportunity to discuss topics including immigration and Islamophobia in a safe and supportive environment. We know this works."

A Huge Success on the Night

The event took place at the Angel Hotel in Cardiff on October 23rd. Jenine who is based in our Cardiff office joined the event along with John Pratley, our Head of Family Law based in Bristol. Jenine says:

"I would like to say a big thank you to those who came to the Show Racism the Red Card and Simpson Millar Black and White Ball (with a dash of red!). Everyone enjoyed the night and I think that out of the 3 I have organised, this was the best yet."

"The evening started with a champagne/cocktail reception and shortly after the Cardiff Arms Park Male Voice Choir started the night's events. We had a 3 course meal, a few speeches and games with prizes to be won. There were great auction prizes including a Gareth Bale signed boot, a Chelsea FC signed football and Manchester City VIP tickets with overnight stay."

Our Family Team at Simpson Millar are proud to have worked so successfully with the charity Show Racism the Red Card since forging a relationship with them back in 2012 and to have been able to raise so much for such an important cause.
