Parental leave changes come into force today
Today, 8 March, parental leave has been extended from 13 weeks to 18 weeks
per child. Employees who have been employed for one year or more
can apply for parental leave as long as they have (or expect to have) responsibility for a child under five or a disabled child
under 18 years of age. Parental leave has to be taken in 1 week blocks
and is in addition to maternity leave, paternity leave and adoption leave. Parental leave is unpaid
unless an employee’s contract of employees says otherwise.
