One in 5 social workers signed off sick for stress
Research carried out using data compiled by local authorities' shows that the number of social workers who took long term sick leave for stress is one of the highest for any profession and double that of teachers.
The statistics show that in the last 5 years as many as 15,550 social workers across England took long term sick leave.
The Conservatives are calling for a chief social worker to represent the profession. Tim Loughton, the Shadow Secretary for Children said "We must do much more to protect social workers from work induced illness".
