National law firm consolidates its position in the Legal 500

Law firm Simpson Millar alongside its community care and education subsidiary; Maxwell Gillott (a trading style of Simpson Millar) are celebrating some "promising" results in the prestigious Legal 500 guide.

In total, 20 of the firm’s specialist teams have been ranked in the annual review of the legal sector – with two of these appearing on the list for the first time.

The outfit’s highest ranking - in tier one – was earned once again by its subsidiary Maxwell Gillott for its work on behalf of individuals in the education sector.

The Legal 500 states: "Maxwell Gillott practice is led by Elaine Maxwell, who is arguably 'the leading education claimant lawyer'. The 'outstanding' team recently acted in statement challenges, uniform policy disputes and in obtaining specialist school placements."

Maxwell Gillott’s work on behalf of private clients in the Court of Protection has appeared on the list for the first time. It has been placed in the second tier with Julie Cornes named as the 'obvious star' for undertaking work which has had "a massive impact in a short time" as a result of undertaking "acutely demanding" work for vulnerable adults.

Simpson Millar's employment team in London – working on behalf of "employees and trade unions" - also retains its position. The report states: "Standout partners at Simpson Millar LLP include Joy Drummond, who is 'very aware of the issues which face trade unions'. "

The firm has also secured 12 separate entries in the Legal 500 UK Guide in areas such as: personal injury; real estate and social housing; clinical negligence; debt recovery; personal tax, trusts and probate and family law.

Maxwell Gillott also retains recognition for the team’s public sector work in both "administrative and public law" as well as "civil liberties and human rights".

The Legal 500 report states: "Group head Angela Jackman is recommended, as is Oliver Studdert, who has 'considerable experience, is very knowledgeable in these areas of law', and is 'excellent with clients'."
