Joining trade union members from across the country in an impressive demonstration of community and solidarity, Simpson Millar staff arrived from far and wide to fly the flag alongside some of the firm's longest-standing clients.

Durham Miners' Gala (also known as 'the big meeting') is an annual gathering; held on the second Saturday of July in Durham City. It's associated with the coal mining heritage of the area and now the event has grown to become the largest unofficial trade union and political gatherings in Europe.

Simpson Millar's recently appointed head of Gateshead, Kate Virica joined business development manager Allison Chatto and their team for a marathon-like contribution to the event.

"The Durham Miners Gala is a hugely important event and one we always look forward to attending. Each year we march in solidarity to show support for those who fight for the rights of workers across Britain. This year, some of my colleagues joined us from our Leeds office," said Allison who is a Gateshead Councillor.

To the tune of brass bands, the day began with a procession of union banners which were marched through the streets of Durham to the Old Racecourse.

Labour Leader, Ed Miliband delivered a rousing political speech this year, being the 128th Durham Miners Gala.

Allison said: "Each year I am overwhelmed by the uplifting atmosphere and feeling of belonging which saturates Durham on this Saturday in July. It really is an event that brings communities together and leaves people inspired to work together to make things better."

Kate added: "I deeply admire Simpson Millar's commitment to supporting trade unions. The Gala is always an amazing experience."

Simpson Millar represents members of trade unions which include the GMB and CWU.
