Law firm expands presence in South West London

Local dignitaries opened the doors of a significant business expansion this week after a national law firm moved into the Communication Workers Union's head office in Wimbledon.

Simpson Millar which boasts the country's leading specialist education law team have relocated some of its London staff to the new office in Wimbledon, in the next stage of their development following an acquisition in 2009.

Simspon Millar is well known for advising parents and families on a range of education, health and community care issues. Their focus is on obtaining the right provision for children and young people with special educational needs, as well as community care services and health provision for young and old alike. Simspon Millar is also able to help parents who are concerned about the school their child has been allocated in the admissions process.

A number of the Simspon Millar team have moved into 150 The Broadway, Wimbledon - a 4,500 sq ft office housing 22 members of staff with room to accommodate more.

The head of Simpson Millar's Wimbledon office, who orchestrated the move said: "The CWU has been a client of Simpson Millar LLP for over 75 years and we share a number of our regional offices with their branches. We were delighted when they invited us to join them at their Wimbledon head office. We needed more space to accommodate an ongoing expansion programme, and we are already looking for an experienced family lawyer to join our expanding national family department. "

CWU general secretary Billy Hayes said: "When the opportunity arose to utilise a large area of vacant space in our HQ building we set out to engage an organisation we had a clear affinity with. Given the longstanding client relationship we had with Simpson Millar, having them as tenants seemed a natural fit. We are pleased they took up this opportunity and feel sure that this represents a good deal for both parties."

Simpson Millar's managing partner, Peter Watson travelled from the firm's head office in Leeds to attend the official office opening on 15 March where he was joined by Mayor of Merton, Councillor Gilli Lewis-Lavender.

"Simpson Millar has served the local community in South West London since 2003 and demand for affordable legal advice here is bigger than ever," said Peter. "The borough now houses the country's leading education firm, together with their very experienced and well regarded community care law team. I know everyone has been looking forward to moving here."
