Ladies turn the grass pink

Team members from law firm Simpson Millar took to the streets in pink for the 5k Race for Life – raising almost £400 for Cancer Research UK.

Saltwell park in Gateshead saw more than 2,000 daughters, mothers, sisters and even a few pets take part in what was billed 'a major fight against cancer' last Sunday. Amongst them were five ladies from the law firm's Gateshead office in a show of support for a colleague who is currently recovering from cancer.

With gleaming appearances Kate Virica, Allison Chatto, Joanne Blenkinsopp, Heather Dunning and Margaret Barr arrived dressed for the occasion in pink feather boas – ready to join the impressive girly gathering.

Allison, who is a business development manager at Simpson Millar, said: "It was a lovely day; we managed to escape the rain and the wind provided welcome assistance at times!"

"The atmosphere was absolutely amazing, with entire generations of families turning up to go that extra mile. Raising money and awareness for cancer charities is something our entire Gateshead office feels very passionately about."

The group plans to take part in next year’s Race For Life – showing strength in numbers with a much bigger team.

"When our friends, colleagues and clients heard about the race they promised to sign up for next year’s event," explained Allison and added: "Needless to say, that is a promise we plan to hold them to!"

Allison is now preparing to take part in an aid convoy to Eastern Europe later this year. She said: "It has never been more important for businesses to engage with charities and local communities."

The Simpson Millar team raised an impressive £380 for Cancer Research UK – the country’s leading cancer charity.
