Holiday Village Golden Beach Hotel – Playa Dorada – Dominican Republic Illness Reports

Dated:

Simpson Millar Solicitors LLP are speaking with a number of holiday makers who were struck with severe stomach illness whilst holidaying at the all inclusive Holiday Village Golden Beach Hotel in the Dominican resort of Playa Dorada.

Initial indications suggest that food poisoning caused by contamination and woeful food handling practices may have been the cause of widespread sickness amongst guests sharing the same communal meal facilities.

The complaints we have received concern food being left sitting exposed to the heat with ants and other insects crawling on the food. Several holiday makers have reported that wild birds frequently entered the dining facility and were observed to peck at food laid out for human consumption. This food was not subsequently removed and only cursory attempts were made by members of staff to discourage the birds.

Lisa Sheldon, Head of Simpson Millar’s Holiday Law Division, is dismayed at the lack of care taken to protect the holiday makers health and said “Is it any wonder why people at this hotel become ill when birds carrying disease can freely contaminate food? We wouldn’t allow birds to peck at food in restaurants in the UK so why do tour operators consider it acceptable in the Dominican Republic? It is incredible and beggars belief".

The advice Lisa Sheldon has given to anyone who has contacted Simpson Millar and been ill at the Holiday Village Golden Beach is to ensure they consult their GP urgently.
