Greg Cox Receives Outstanding Case of the Year Award
Last night the Colemans-ctts and Simpson Millar
personal injury team were out in force for the Eclipse Proclaim Personal Injury Awards, a market-leading event celebrating excellence in the personal injury sector.
We were pleased to see that Greg Cox, Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution
at Colemans-ctts, part of Simpson Millar, received the award in the Outstanding Case of the Year category.
Ensuring Anonymity for Vulnerable Claimants
The award was for Greg's hard work, along with the whole of the Claimant and Personal Injuries Bar Association (PIBA)
team, in the case of JXMX v Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust (JXMX) – a ground breaking personal injury case. The category is judged on the criteria that the case set an industry wide precedent in challenging circumstances, and JXMX certainly achieved this.
The case reversed the need for claimants seeking anonymity to apply for it, instead allowing automatic anonymity in many cases. Publicity and the revelation of private facts
can be harmful to vulnerable claimants and this ruling has importantly helped to protect the interests of children and protected parties in allowing them to remain anonymous.
has become far easier and the ruling has been welcomed by judges as this clear guidance has simplified the process for claimants whilst freeing up burdens on the courts.
"Protecting the right to anonymity of children involved in personal injury settlements
is important and it is a tribute to all involved in the case that this important right is now established."
We're delighted that Greg
and the rest of the team have received recognition for the hard work that went into such an important case.
