Couples wishing to get divorced must consider mediation
Ministers are currently drawing up plans to ensure that couples who are wishing to separate or divorce must consider mediation before proceeding to court.
Currently it is only couples who are using legal aid to fund their divorce who have to consider mediation as a means of making arrangements for children and finances.
Going to court only enhances the emotional trauma to divorcing couples and draws out the whole process. By using mediation, many couples find an amicable resolution to their divorce through a set of meetings with either a trained mediator who in some cases can be a family lawyer, but not always.
