Appeal For Witnesses Of Abuse At School In Surrey
The Law of… helping abuse survivors
Peter Garsden – specialist abuse solicitor – is appealing for any information regarding attendance or employment at Brantridge School in Surrey during the 1990s, as a brave abuse survivor comes forward.
Robin Carter, of Westmeston, East Sussex, was sentenced to 9 years in jail for various indecent assaults carried out during the 1990s. He is also a registered sex offender for life and was given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) when he was convicted in April 2017. His SHPO limits his access to children for the rest of his life.
Investigations into Robin Carter were brought about when an ex-pupil of Brantbridge School came forward as a witness to him behaving inappropriately with a pupil. His offences date back to and throughout the 1990s.
Carter worked as a residential child care officer during this time at Ditton Place, part of Brantbridge School. Ditton Place itself closed in 2002, but it had been a residential school specialising in children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
A further victim has come forward since Carter was convicted in April.
Peter Garsden is now calling for any further witnesses or abuse survivors to come forward with any information they might have.
"If anyone knows anything about this case or remembers Mr Carter, I am asking them to come forward so that we can acquire any important information. Anyone who worked at or attended Brantbridge School, or Ditton Place during the 1990s would be good to hear from. Contact us in confidence on 0345 347 9200 or contact the team and I on Peter.Garsden@simpsonmillar.co.uk."
