£1,490 compensation awarded for holiday gastric illness
We were recently instructed by our client who along with her partner and son, contracted gastroenteritis whilst on holiday
Our client and her family were staying at the Grand Cettia Hotel
in Turkey when she contracted severe infective gastroenteritis
with symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea. According to our client, the hygiene at the hotel was very poor, particularly in the swimming pool, where faecal accidents were not dealt with
Our client also said that the food at the hotel was a cause for concern with reports that it was not cooked properly
and the hygiene levels in the restaurant being of poor standards
The strength of this case alone was not particularly strong; however it was part of a group of ten people
who had stayed at the same hotel, with all the cases supporting each other.
Also part of the group of ten was a family of four who had confirmed cases of cryptosporidium
. This family gave the group the strength it needed to be a success, as all members had been holidaying at the same time
The Tour Operator admitted liability subject to medical evidence which was obtained, and then made an offer of £1,490 compensation
to our client which was accepted.
Our client stated that the service received was "hassle free and a great outcome
". She advised that James Blower, the specialist who handled her case, provided "Great communication and answered all questions quickly".
