£20K compensation for unfairly sacked worker
An Employment Tribunal, sitting in Brighton, has found that an employee was unfairly dismissed
by local furniture company, AVA Designs Limited
Colin Welch, who had worked continuously for almost 10 years, was sacked on 31 October 2011. Mr Welch said, "I was dismissed without warning or consultation
. I later received a letter that stated that my employment was terminated owing to a decline in business
The Tribunal awarded Mr Welch just over £20k
which also included compensation for notice pay and unpaid wages
Mr Welch who was supported by the GMB trade union said, "Hopefully this money will help me get my feet back on the ground again."
Simpson Millar LLP, who represented Mr Welch said, "Mr Welch was dismissed without notice or consultation after 10 years' loyal service
. This was a clear breach of the law and I am pleased that Mr Welch received justice in the end."
