Occupational / industrial diseases
Most people know that it is possible to claim compensation for an accident, but not everyone realises that compensation is also payable for industrial disease. An occupational or industrial disease is any illness caused or made worse by work.
Particularly dangerous environments include ship building, mining, railway engineering, foundries, steel production or other metal works, motor vehicle production, construction, carpentry, textiles, power stations, rubber or latex production - just to name a few.
The most common industrial illness are those causing breathing difficulties such as:
However, there are other common industrial illnesses including:
Exposure to hazardous substances
Rarer, but still valid claims are those caused by exposure to lesser known dangerous substances in the workplace such as carbon monoxide or nitro glycerine poisoning. (Check out our PDF guide to Hazardous Substances in the workplace
.)
What if I don't work in an industrial environment anymore but have developed an illness?
If you no longer work in an industrial environment this does not usually matter since very often symptoms do not develop immediately - eg deafness and asbestos lung diseases can take years to become noticeable.
If the company that is to blame has stopped trading, been taken over or gone out of business this does not necessarily matter either since we are experts at tracing those responsible and restoring them so that a claim can be pursued.
How much will it cost me to make an industrial disease compensation claim?
Many people who suffer from occupational / industrial diseases are retired or on a fixed income and are understandably concerned that they may need to pay a lawyer. However, please rest assured that in the absence of legal expenses insurance or trades union membership any case our solicitors take on will be on a "no win no fee" basis and there will be nothing to pay whether you win or lose. Any initial investigations we make will also be free of charge.
The vast majority of occupational / industrial disease claims settle out of court in the same way as any other personal injury claim.
Our dedicated specialist industrial disease compensation solicitors will provide an immediate assessment of your claim and guide you through the legal compensation process. Call our free helpline today on 0800 011 1166 or use our no obligation,
online enquiry form.
