Education Law and Community Care
Sophie Black is a paralegal specialising in the law of education. She has experience in all areas of education law including admissions and unlawful exclusions, and securing school placements or alternative education for children who are not currently attending school.
She has a particular interest in helping secure suitable educational placements and provision for children and young people with special educational needs, including appeals in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal, where she enjoys representing clients at hearings, and ensuring that their case is effectively made to the Judge and panel.
Sophie began working for Simpson Millar in 2015. She has a degree in Zoology from the University of Aberdeen and has completed qualifications in Family Law with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives. She has also completed courses in Counselling Skills at night school. She has previously worked for a local authority special school, supporting children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Outside of work Sophie spends time with her husband and three young children. Sophie is a keen cook, and if she isn’t exploring the great outdoors with the family, she is likely to be found baking cakes for anyone who will eat them.
