Graduate recruitment
We pride ourselves on the standard of training given to our Paralegals and Legal
Advisors. Over the past couple of years, several of our Paralegals and Legal Advisors
have been awarded training contracts and due to the success of these placements,
the decision was made to offer training contracts initially to internal applicants
and where possible those applicants should have 12 months experience. If we are
unsuccessful with an internal placement then the business will recognise the need
to advertise and recruit externally. If you wish to get in touch regarding graduate applications you can email: recruitment@simpsonmillar.co.uk
Unfortunately, that said, the number of talented individuals currently employed
by us as paralegals or legal advisors far outweigh the number of training contracts
we are able to offer so an offer of employment as a paralegal or Legal Advisor will
not automatically guarantee you a training contract but you can rest assured that
you will receive quality hands-on legal experience throughout your employment.
"Upon commencing my Training Contract in October 2008 I recall being very excited
about being trusted to run my own files. One of the great aspects of the Training
Contract is that as a trainee at Simpson Millar, you are immediately given a high
degree of responsibility. I was soon appearing in Court, making applications before
District Judge’s and attending Trials with Counsel. Nerve-wracking, but then that
is why I went to Law School. The friendly atmosphere in the various offices meant
that I was never afraid to go and ask questions of my Supervisor and fellow Fee
earners, who were always more than happy to help and give advice. Two years later
and I am now a newly qualified solicitor working in the Holiday and Travel Law Department.
My seats in the Personal Injury, Property and Corporate and Commercial Departments
have, I feel, given me a solid start to my legal career."

"I joined the firm in 2009 and have never looked back. I started as a legal advisor
in Employment Law then being promoted to a senior advisor with my own team. The
main factors in deciding where I wanted to work have always been to gain a real
sense of legal exposure in the area I wish to specialise in and having the right
people to work with. Currently a trainee, I get to work alongside some highly recognised
solicitors whilst truly receiving the best training possible. There is always a
constant supportive atmosphere at work and everyday is a learning curve. The supervision
is perfect and it develops me as an individual. An open door policy isn’t just a
mission with Simpson Millar but more of a bold statement. I’ve worked in both the
Leeds and Manchester office which has given me the opportunity to work with so many
great individuals within the firm."

"I am now half way through my 18 month training contract at Simpson Millar and I
can honestly say that I have enjoyed every minute of it. I worked for Simpson Millar
as an Employment Law Advisor for 15 months before I started my training contract
and I would highly recommend following a similar route before qualification."
"My Employment Advisor role gave me the opportunity to establish what life would
be like as a trainee at Simpson Millar before actually starting it and as a prospective
trainee, this insight was invaluable. I had the chance to familarise myself with
the work ethic and core values of the firm, meet the people that I would be working
with and develop my knowledge of the case management systems. From this I knew that
Simpson Millar was a firm that I could see my future in. "
"There is a great support network at Simpson Millar and I have had the opportunity
of working alongside dedicated, friendly and highly talented staff. From the start
of my training contract I was quickly conducting my own advocacy and running my
own case load. I have also assisted other fee-earners with high-value cases. The
experience I have gained is immense and I have developed skills and technique that
will stay with me long beyond my training contract."
