Asbestos disease Mesothelioma responds better to 'multimodality' therapy
-
Researchers have found that the asbestos-related illness Mesothelioma responds better to two or more methods of treatment. This 'multimodality therapy' has been shown to prolong the prognosis period of people suffering from mesothelioma, giving them precious extra time with loved ones.
Whilst making the most of time spent with family and friends is priority, it also allows patients suffering from the asbestos disease mesothelioma to look into claiming compensation for their exposure to asbestos which has caused their terminal mesothelioma.
Having carried out research on 139 patients, the researchers found that all had had a form of surgery – either an extra-pleural pneumonectomy (EPP) for stage 1 patients or a pleurectomy/decortication (PD) for those in the more advanced stages. Yet the mesothelioma sufferers who chose to also have post-operative therapy after the PD surgery did seem to have a longer survival rate. Multimodality therapy can be mentally and physically exhausting and each mesothelioma patient needs to be assessed on an individual basis as to whether they are strong enough to take on this course of action.
Simpson Millar LLP Solicitors are experts in handling Mesothelioma compensation claims for Mesothelioma sufferers themselves or their family members. Because mesothelioma cannot be cured – only the patient’s life prolonged through treatment – it is often a comfort to those with the asbestos-related illness to know that their loved ones will at least receive financial compensation following a mesothelioma compensation claim on their behalf.
People suffering from mesothelioma have typically been exposed to asbestos anything up to 50 years ago, usually in their workplace. Although the use of asbestos has now been banned in the European Union it is estimated that 250,000 people will have died from mesothelioma in Western Europe alone by 2029.
Mesothelioma is a virulent form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos and whilst progress is being made in medical treatments, mesothelioma remains an incurable disease.
Mesothelioma compensation claims are increasingly successful as people who have been exposed to asbestos and developed mesothelioma many years later are claiming the compensation they deserve.
One of our highly experienced solicitors will be happy to discuss your mesothelioma compensation claim with you, whether you are suffering from mesothelioma yourself or you are a family member of a loved one who has got or has sadly died from Mesothelioma.
