Carbon Reduction Commitment
-
The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) scheme is due to commence on 1 April 2010 in a bid to reduce carbon emissions in the UK.
It is intended that the CRC scheme will apply to 5,000 non-energy intensive businesses and public sector organisations and it has also been estimated that around 20,000 organisation will have to participate by means of providing information about their use of energy.
The scheme will be split into 3 phases and the 1st phase will apply to public and private organisations whose annual electricity use from half-hourly meters is above 6,000 megawatt hours in 2008.
Each phase will consist of a qualification period; registration deadline; footprint year for calculating total amount of their carbon emissions and a series of scheme years.
Landlords with many properties will have to consider the implication of the CRC scheme to ensure they are complaint.
