Simpson Millar LLP continues north east expansion into debt recovery

Following last month’s news of its move to establish a North East office by acquiring Peter Maughan and Co, Simpson Millar LLP has purchased debt recovery firm AP Law Associates LLP in Newcastle.

Allison Chatto who established AP Law Associates joins Simpson Millar as part of the deal and brings a significant client following to the new Gateshead office from where she plans to expand the business further under the Simpson Millar brand.

“To continue to grow the business and attract high profile clients, it made sense to tie in with a well established and successful firm,” said Ms Chatto.

“This deal is the perfect progression not only for my business and for me personally but also for my clients who can look forward to receiving an increased level of service from a provider with offices across the country.”

Ms Chatto added: “I had already been approached by a number of firms interested in merging or forming a partnership with AP Law Associates but I was only interested if the right firm and, most importantly, the right people came along.

“Peter Maughan recommended that I met with the management team of Simpson Millar; not just because it was an interesting firm with an attractive business model but because he was convinced that it would be a good match culturally.

“Once I met the managing partner and operations director from Simpson Millar I instantly recognised the firm to be one which was interesting, had an attractive business model and promised an excellent cultural fit. I’m pleased that they felt the same way. The manner in which they operate and their focus on client care and business development are very much in keeping with my core values and I look forward to being part of the Simpson Millar family.”

“When we said we were looking to expand our service offering and grow the business, we meant it,” commented Peter Watson, managing partner of Simpson Millar. “AP Law Associates met all our criteria in terms of being managed by experienced and ambitious people who bring experience and new clients to our practice.

“Small, medium and home-based businesses simply don’t have the time or resources to spend countless hours tracking down unpaid invoices. But debt collection done properly can ensure that the business owed money maintains a healthy cash flow and often even the relationship with its customers. We will be dedicated to maintaining the highest standards and adhere strictly to industry approved practices.”

“Expanding into the field of debt collection is a natural and frankly long overdue progression for Simpson Millar,” added the firm’s operations director, Craig Jones. “We are already heavy users of modern technology and debt collection lends itself perfectly to that model. On-line access for clients to review their matters is just one of the features already in place, as is our ability to handle a large number of consumer matters efficiently and consistently.

“Our national presence brings us in to daily contact with many local businesses that are well advised to closely manage their exposure to debtors – today more than ever. With our online facilities providing access to matter-related information 24-7, we adopt a policy of total transparency – leaving our clients to get on with the business of doing business.”
