Leeds solicitors join humanitarian convoy to Bulgaria
-
On Friday 5 September Simpson Millar LLP's managing partner, Peter Watson and assistant solicitor, Ricki James will embark on a 3 week voyage to deliver vital goods to 4 orphanages in Bulgaria.
Ricki and Peter will be part of a 20 "man" convoy - organised by the Communication Workers Union Humanitarian Aid (CWUHA) - that will deliver goods such as cots, bedding, protein and clothing to children, many of whom are mentally or physically disabled, at Bulgarian orphanages.
Peter Watson states: “The CWUHA is an extremely worthy charity and one we have been proud to support for many years."
"This is the first time I have been part of the CWUHA convoy, although other members of staff have been along in previous years and I can’t think of a more worthy cause than helping children in need. This is perhaps one of the few unique opportunities to not only make a difference but to see the immediate appreciation of the people you are helping."
"Although Ricki and I are the ones who will be delivering the aid, everyone at Simpson Millar LLP has been both generous and supportive in terms of raising money and collecting items for this project.”
27 year old Ricki James from Barry who is the only woman taking part this year, added: "I'm really pleased to be part of the convoy and have only recently taken my LGV license so that I can do my part of the driving."
”Everyone at the firm has been very generous and we have managed to fill our truck with everything on our list. Now we just need to deliver it.”
Peter and Ricki will be setting off from the firm’s head office in Leeds from where they will join the 10 truck strong convoy in Hull to begin the long journey through Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Romania to Bulgaria where they are due to arrive on 11th September.
They will then spend 3 days in the country before returning to England.
Whilst not driving Peter will write a daily blog which will be published on the firm’s website: http://www.simpsonmillar.co.uk or you go directly to the blog at ( http://simpsonmillar.blogspot.com)
