Some of Yorkshire's biggest sport and leisure teams went hoof-to-paw in a charity showdown at the Simpson Millar Race Day at Doncaster Racecourse last Friday.
Leeds United’s Lucas the Kop Cat claimed victory in a star-studded mascot race – crossing the line ahead of rivals from Doncaster Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and others.

Aside from providing great entertainment, the racing mascots helped raise £120 for the Communication Workers Union Humanitarian Aid (CWUHA) and Just a Drop – charities which are both supported by Simpson Millar LLP, Solicitors.
Simpson Millar's Marketing Director Caroline Kelly said: “The mascots created a new dimension which I think could catch on; normally at a racecourse you would expect a familiar species jumping the fences but at the Simpson Millar race day we introduced rhinos, tigers, owls and bears. It was a great day out and although the mascot race added an extra splash of sporting fun it is the charities that will benefit the most from the event.”
Just a Drop raises money to build wells, install boreholes and hand pumps, and carry out sanitation and health education programmes in some of the poorest parts of the developing world.
CWUHA delivers vital aid to children in some of the world’s poorest countries.
