2 year-old mauled by dog could lose sight

A toddler has been admitted to hospital with serious facial injuries after being mauled by a Staffordshire bull terrier.
Wiltshire Police were unable to confirm whether the animal was the same as one which attacked an officer last year at the same property.
After the latest attack, on the evening of the 2 year-old toddler was found in a neighbour's garden.
He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford before transfer to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, where he was placed in an induced coma. At time of writing the toddler was due to undergo surgery to reattach part of his ear.
Although his condition is reported to be stable, there are fears his eyesight might be affected.
Also injured was a 49 year-old man, who has received treatment for a non-serious arm injury.
A police spokesperson said that the terrier, which its owner voluntarily handed over, was 1 of 2 dogs at the house. "The 1 which was involved in the attack will be destroyed," the spokesperson said. "The second dog was not aggressive or involved in the attack."
A witness, who declined to be named, said his wife heard screaming, after which "The grandfather carried out the boy and he was just limp. There was blood all over his face."
The witness added that the air ambulance arrived to take the boy to hospital. "I can't believe the response we had from the emergency services, they were there in minutes."
Police said no-one had been arrested in connection with the attack and that the dog's owners were co-operating fully.
"Officers are speaking to all parties involved to establish the full circumstances of the incident," the spokesperson added.
Police also admitted that an officer was bitten by a dog last year at the same property, but that the animal had been "appropriately assessed" at the time. "This animal was found not to be a dangerous dog breed. No further action was taken."
"Officers cannot confirm at this stage if the same dog that bit a police officer was the same as the one that has been destroyed after attacking the 2 year-old boy."
