Transcript - Employment Law Services
Hello, my name is Tim Gooder. I am an employment law solicitor working at the Leeds
office of Simpson Millar.
The law cannot solve every problem at work but it does have something to say about
almost every aspect of working life. We can assist with identifying the particular
part of the vast array of employment legislation and case law that is relevant to
your situation. We can provide you with guidance on the best steps to take, advise
on what is realistic and also bring your matter to the best possible conclusion
in the circumstances.
For employees, the single most important event for which they usually require our
advice is the ending of employment. There may be a potential claim for unfair dismissal
or statutory redundancy pay. There may also be issues in relation to breach of contract
or unpaid wages. In some cases discrimination may have played a part. The employer
may be seeking to settle all potential claims with a lump sum payment under what
is known as a compromise agreement and we can advise on these too.
Problems may arise during employment. For example, there may be attempts by the
employer to vary the terms and conditions of employment. Temporary lay off or short
time working may be an issue. There may in certain situations be a breakdown in
the relationship between the employer and the employee. Litigation is not necessarily
always the answer and we can provide advice on drafting and submitting grievances
and we can negotiate with your employer either directly or through ACAS.
We also provide a comprehensive service for employers when faced with a claim or
situation within an employee which needs resolving. It is always best to have the
proper advice from the outset. In fact, all problems are best addressed when the
correct policies and procedures are in place. We can review your employment contracts
and associated documentation and this should enable you to be in a position to best
manage your staff. If a claim does arise then we can advise you as to the steps
to take. We can explain tribunal procedure and we can also represent you in proceedings.
